1. How did you ring in the new year for 2008?
i can't even remember! isn't that funny! i'm sure it was fun and all. i'll have to go check. oh. here's what i did, from otherblog:

oh yes, what did i do for new year's? went to laura and joe's house for some cookies (made by his vegan girlfriend!), cookies, cookies, ham, lamb balls, whiskey, sangria, cookies, wine, champagne, cookies, lamb balls, and ham. am i incapable of getting a hangover? i suppose that cinches it. ken brought his guitar against his will and we sang muse songs with julia, amused james mah by serenading him with "free falling" and disappointed joe because we didn't know any rockabilly. so it goes.

after we realized we were the last ones there, james, ken and i went back to our place for ddr. it didn't hurt my knee, either. but third mix appears to be irreparably damaged :/

3. What did you do in 2008 that you'd never done before?
quit school to be an artist. yeah. never done that one before.

got in the middle of a small disaster between an animal rights group and my university. and resolved it.

found homes for 40 rats.

taught a drawing class.

went to scotland.

got paid to look for videos of cows humping each other.

won nanowrimo.

4. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

i didn't make any. i might this time around.

a job. a creative name for myself. self-control.

who knows? i'm planning to block most of it out. i'll remember laura leaving for hawaii, and the day i quit grad school. definitely our trip to the uk.

10. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
lol. again, leaving grad school. finally having the guts to enact the decision i made ages ago. even before i went to grad school.

11. What was your biggest failure?
putting off the job search and getting my act together in lieu of finishing up my experiment. it's a small regret, but it's there. because now i'm approaching broke fast with no job and a rotten economy. i didn't really fail spectacularly in too much. did i?

12. Did you suffer illness or injury?
oh, always.

13. What was the best thing you bought?

i just don't think about these things. i was really happy buying a larger secondary hard drive so that i could backup my pictures and videos. but most of the things i cherish were given to me.

everyone i know did some great shit this year.

towards necessities. food and rent and insurance.

getting a new camera. an art career. leaving grad school. adopting some rats. teaching. scotland. fanfic and rp. seeing daniel radcliffe naked on a horse.

i don't stand around too much. especially all night.

i feel like i watched an awful lot of tv this year. probably house as always, although doctor who had a pretty brilliant season and boston legal is always adorable.

probably not, since i hate you all at least some of the time and some of you all of the time. but hey, i'm not even going to finish this bastardization of a quote.

26. What was the best book you read?
hm. i really liked chuck palahniuk's "diary." i also read neal stephenson's "zodiac." and finally got finished with stephen king's "misery." these are all good books.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
that aj will apparently gift me with rejected cds, and, integral to the greatness of this discovery, he rejects things i really like

28. What did you want and get?
doctor who dvds. some obscure folk i'm too lazy to purchase on my own. a better camera. doc marten boots. better drawing pencils. ridiculously awesome concert photos of amanda palmer and trent reznor. another trip to the uk. really i made out like a bandit this year.

29. What did you want and not get?
a freaking JOB. more fun and relaxation.

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
of this year. that narrows it down. i guess the dark knight. i wish i could say the sum of comfort but i'm sorry, daniel craig. your bum was the best thing ABOUT that movie.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
karaoke party at home. guess.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
stable income. seriously. i get really twitchy and strangely inert without it. it is hard to be creative when you are worried about starvation, and even if i can lean on someone it does not change my base instincts. i'm a taurus; ergo i need assurance of money to feel regular.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008?
i ran out of cargo pants that fit, so i switched over to those hip-riding jeans i hated years ago. and some black slacks. and because of the doc martens coming up mid-calf and being too awesome to hide, said pants tucked into these boots. helps with bike riding too. i have amassed a lot of craft center t-shirts so i've been wearing them to death. oh, and those rose tyler wrist warmers that sara from

who_knits made for me. i wear those all the time.

34. What kept you sane?
rping (for a while, until it made me INsane), fanfic, reading, bubble tea, baking, rats, knitting, doctor who, drawing, music

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
daniel craig is the new hottie of 2008.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
i'm sad to say that stupid prop 2 thing. i was against it because it flew in the face of what we know of chicken welfare and seemed too vague to do anything more but drive out the smaller farms and allow factory farms to get away with doing as little as possible to stay in business with no great benefit to the animals. and to let voters off the hook because they felt they'd "done their part." i mean really hsus. whose side are you on anymore?

i miss anyone i haven't seen in a while. laura, gretchen, sara, anna, jaQ, jess, chris b, dave l, jackie.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
who the hell did i even really meet this year?

i didn't really "meet" alan this year, and i'm not sure if he's the "best"... but he's certainly the most french and we hadn't really hung out much before.
