see, america? this is what happens when you vote.

democracy happens.

that, said, california, i'm sorely disappointed in you. i had no idea roughly half of you were homophobes. either that or maybe you just read the ballot wrong?

Man, California, Arizona and Florida let me down by banning gay marriage. Plus, Alabama adopted a thingit to ban same-sex couples from adopting.

Sometimes, I hate baby steps.

well then, alabama takes the cake this year for ridiculousness, i guess. sheesh.

the stupidest thing about california is that we had it and now it's taken away. and i just don't understand how someone who can allow civil unions would drag out the bible to define marriage. it makes no sense to me. why would letting two people of the same sex get married cheapen anyone else's marriage? srsly a lot of them are cheap enough already

actually the Yes on 8 Campaign actually tried to make the proposition wording as confusing as possible to trick some people who support gay marriage into thinking that Yes on 8 is pro-gay Marriage.

I've yet to hear a legitimate reason against gay marriage that doesn't boil down to discrimination, ignorance or fear. Plus, government regulated marriage does not equal religious marriage. Gah.

I take little comfort in the fact that Obama wants to take on the DoMA, which is a step in the right direction, at least.

There is that. The state attorney general managed to win a small battle of changing the wording to say that it "eliminates the right of same-sex couples," but generally a ballot measure is couched in terms that imply that voting yes means you're giving someone something -- bond funds for children's hospitals, more funding for public transit, what have you.

I'm still incredibly disappointed in and hurt by a lot of people in my state tonight, though.

California, Arizona (super conservative), and Florida have large pockets of conservative homophobic people who have lots of money so that propositions like this can be well funded. This isn't over by a long shot though.

theres too much momentum behind either one. eventually the judiciary is going to intervene, and even then it wont be over
in fact, i dont know anything about prop 8 that would keep it from being tossed out by the courts entirely right now.

I thought it was Arkansas that banned it.

In any case, those people are actually hurting children with their ridiculous law, be keeping ones in foster care that could go to loving homes. Why do they want to hurt kids?
