the little ones are very scared of the big one, though. i really don't know what they're going to do to resolve this.

Could you maybe put them in adjoining cages so they could sniff each other for a while and have rat chats without fear of a beatdown?

i had their cages right next to each other, and right now i have a divider in the big cage and both parties in there. i guess we'll see.

I bet it works out OK. I was always a bad rat steward and just dumped them all in the same cage willy-nilly. Usually what happened was that the new rat or rats would be paralyzed with fear for a few minutes but after a couple of hours everyone would be in a snoozy ratpile.

Oh, I wasn't suggesting that you should DO AS I DO and then everything would be OK, just theorizing that because rats are lazy and would rather just cuddle and love, like little raver kids, I bet it works out. Eventually.
