i'm considering using flickr. any thoughts from users (or non-users who are into photography)? why do you or don't you use it? how do you manage/pimp out your photos online in general?

friend of mine swears that it's like crack. i dont understand how an account used for photos with comments enabled is supposed to be so addicting.
i dunno, just seems like noise.
then again i'm pretty bad at self-promotion

I don't get flickr. When I took the pictures of the fencing tournament several different people asked when I was putting them up on flickr and I had to explain that I'm not, I have my own web space.

DeviantArt was fun for awhile, but I got bored with it.

I find Flickr to be a good way to store my photos and stix and such, but I'm a parsimonious bastard so I only get 200 photos and I used those up. I should perhaps get a paid account but what am I, made of money?

Anyway, Flickr lets you do neat stuff like add notes to your pictures and, if they allow it, photos of other people; you can arrange your stuff into sets, contribute to multiuser pools, tag, look at different sizes, all the good stuff. It's all very straightforward and easy to use. I think there are all kinds of fun widgets I haven't bothered to figure out, too.

I like PicasaWeb. It's not bandwidth-limited, so it's good for putting up large batches at once. I also like the layout and interface better, and like being able to use keyboard shortcuts for things (like arrow keys to go between photos instead of clicking on stuff all the time).

I use flickr occasionally, to direct-link to photos off of my LJ. Flickr gets a lot of traffic, and a lot of my photos have been borrowed and used in other places. There's a community for all kinds of things; I've gotten comments inviting me to Food Shaped Like Animals and Hungry Trees and various location-specific pools, which are often entertaining.

i like flickr even though i'm not very active with the ass-kissing and adding and favoriting, one negative thing about it is that you have to pay to publically store over 200 photos. it's not that expensive but i'm not sure i'll renew next year.

I have a flickr for my store (and so I can lurk adult-only accounts of people I know) but I don't use one for personal photos. If you plan on paying for an account, it would probably be easier to manage and enjoy, but free accounts are only allowed three albums and a certain number of uploads.

I've got a flickr & ended up paying for an account because I like to upload large amounts of large files

I enjoy the site - there's of course a lot of ass kissing on it for photos that bore me to tears but I find a lot of interesting photos too

Well, I'm on there, and I paid money, but really I just put my stuff up and let it be. That's about as far as I get with things.
