100 hot chix (#100-76)
Apr. 20th, 2009 11:06 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
so yeah, i was checking out someone's list of the "2009 hottest women," and i just wasn't impressed at all (first of all, it was February-- who the hell would have a list out that early? and second of all, so many of them were just T & A, or the Next Hot Thing, and it just wasn't indicative of my bizarre taste).
so i decided to make my own, and this is really more of a general list, not year-specific. it's taken me forever to get this damn list together. they're loosely ranked, but it's not like i'm the mom in sophie's choice or anything. there's a lot of reasons i find these women "hot." here's the first 25 (warning: picture-intensive!):

100. vanessa marcil. i watched one episode of blush and as soon vanessa appeared i was enthralled by her gentle, calm demeanor and her friendly smile. if i were on a reality show and this woman was telling me i'd been cut from it, it wouldn't seem as harsh a blow.

99. gwen stefani. gwen's music can be awfully annoying, but i've always admired those abs! i also really enjoy the edgy warble to her voice, how she seemed like just one of the guys in no doubt, and how she revels in her delightful tackiness.

98. nerissa and katryna nields. seeing this folk duo live really helps cement how beautiful these two are. on the one hand you have nerissa, the thoughtful, patient sister who blogs about karma and parenting and her struggle to stop worrying, and on the other you have katryna, who can't stand still and elects instead to twirl on her toes and exude this joyous, gleeful energy that's refreshing to see in someone out of her twenties. their music is compelling on a sort of raw coming of age level, and besides that it's sexy to see two women who refuse to grow up on anything but their own terms, and in any way but unconventional.

97. edie sedgwick. i know very little about edie but when
deringer informed me that this was the woman you see in those iconic warhol pictures, she had to go on the list. edie isn't quite my type, which is why she's got such a low ranking, but she exudes this really casual, playful sexuality in her pictures and looks like she's always having a fabulous time without you. for some reason that's pretty hot.

96. carly smithson. i fell in love with her right along with simon cowell during american idol. her voice is amazing, and she has that european accent going for her. add to that her raven hair and tattoos (how rare is that for someone with body art to get that far in such a mainstream pop competition?) and you have one very hot contestant. anyone who can sing that well with a throat cold has my damn vote.

95. marg helgenberger. one of the hot chicks of the csi franchise, she manages to hold the dichotomy of "older woman" and "hot." that is hard to do, and marg ends up not just accomplishing but owning it. she reminds me of a fairy queen; she just has this eternal youthful light about her and i find her facial bone structure fascinating.

94. eliza dushku. i don't find eliza as hot as some people do, and i'm never quite convinced by her acting, but it can't be denied that she is hot. i like how she doesn't have to be rail-thin to be hot either-- her gigantic bosom was what made buffy the vampire slayer character faith's style, in some ways.

93. teri hatcher. she's been beautiful for years, ever since she first caught my eye in lois and clark. she's still beautiful now, and easily the most stand-out actress in the desperate housewives cast. she has this great sexy domestic vibe that almost makes me want to suffer through the show.

92. roselyn sanchez. she's the new junior miss tough chick of the universe on without a trace-- she gets me every time when she just narrows her eyes and lays into some perp, or even her colleagues. she's such a scrappy smart-ass, and those are the best sorts of women.

91. christa miller. she was the sought-after kate on the drew carey show and now she's the ball-busting paramour of dr. cox on scrubs. in two very different roles she's managed to steal every scene with her down-to-earth one-of-the-guys bitchiness-- what, don't tell me you're all watching sarah chalke?

90. mary elizabeth manstrantonio. i first saw her in the abyss, where she stole my heart. later she starred in that horrible robin hood movie with kevin costner, but i can forgive her because i just think she's lovely. if you can still be beautiful while you're sporting blue lips and being resuscitated in an emotionally visceral and gritty post-drowning scene then you could only be mary elizabeth manstrantonio.

89. terry farrell. easily the prettiest star trek franchise actress. she is supposed to be a tomboy in real life, who enjoys fishing and camping. knowledge of this, combined with her understated natural beauty, kind of makes up for the fact that her character and series (deep space nine) were pretty damn boring most of the time.

88. emily procter. another csi chick. a lot of us kind of knee-jerk react to southern accents, especially with all the political rage that's gone on in the past few years, but calleigh's accent on csi: miami has a lilting quality grounded in practicality that compounds her beauty. emily procter herself has these big eyes and a mouth that always looks like she's about to break out in a wan smile. she makes no pretense, and she doesn't need to.

87. lalla ward. she was romana II, a time lady who gave as good as she got, on the original doctor who. in show canon, her previous incarnation was so taken with the appearance of some princess played by ward in a previous episode-- that she just had to steal her form when she regenerated. i can see why. on the show ward plays a tinier, lighter version of romana, someone who is clearly the doctor's equal but can't seem to resist teasing him as often as possible. this picture of her putting on the doctor's trademark hat depicts one of my favorite moments in doctor who history.

86. jane goodall. early pictures of her depict a calm, practical beauty. the story of her life is amazing-- she she was asked to do field work, by herself in the middle of the jungle with only a troop of chimpanzees to keep her company-- when she was 16. her book detailing these experiences, in the shadow of man, has this really great example of how isolated and at peace with her environment she became: she would often walk stark naked through the jungle in the early morning. she's obviously much older now, but she still has whatever she had then-- a sort of gentle confidence that is rare and well-earned.

85. amy acker. i never watched more than a few episodes of angel but i always found acker's character, fred, nerdily beautiful. still, i was never as impressed by the actress as i was when she took on the challenging role of illyria in the same series, and had to hold the dual nature of an emotionless parasite living in the shell of someone else and taking on that person's life and past. and she's quite breathtaking in that blue makeup.

84. naoko mori. another lovely geek woman from a show i never watch, torchwood. but i've seen some footage of her, and she's where my eyes always go. i hear she also had a hot lesbian kiss in one episode, but honestly just looking at her studious, determined expression as she stares down a microscope is more than enough to convince me that she's hot.

83. jem griffiths. she's an inspiration, first of all, because she started her music career in her late twenties rather than the usual way these days (as a preteen). she's got that awkward welsh beauty going for her that's always hard to place, and she can really rock it in jeans and sneakers. her midriff, which can be glimpsed in her "they" video, boasts of an hourglass figure that you just don't see much anymore except maybe in hispanic or black ideals. and the european version of that video features jem stripping down in a space shuttle-- for some reason?

82. uma thurman. i was not an uma fan at all until kill bill came out. somewhere around the time she was forcing her big toe to wiggle, her near-stick insect stringiness was made beautiful and accessible, and put into some sort of odd superheroine perspective that just seemed right.

81. sarah carter. apparently she starred in shark without a comment, but when i saw her in boston legal's episode "it girls and beyond" i was wondering who this delicately beautiful creature was and why i'd never seen her before. lol.

80. louise lombard. as you've noticed i have a lot of csi chicks on this list. this woman i remember first spotting zipping out of some sort of hazmat suit, and i thought it was just the hottest thing i'd ever seen for some reason.

79. anna belknap. she is so adorable! just look!

78. soleil moon frye. god, this is punky brewster. isn't that amazing? i think she guest starred on sabrina the teenage witch or whatever when i spotted her as an adult. after my initial shock i remember thinking "god, she looks like a hot alanis morissette."

77. julie bowen. i hated her character on boston legal and couldn't get past her obnoxiousness. then denise went away for a season and came back to guest spot during the final one-- and she never looked more beautiful. her hair is just amazing now.

76. allison mack. again, i don't watch her show (smallville) very much at all, but i always thought she was way cuter than lana or whoever the hell else was in the show. they all looked like they belonged in the o.c. but chloe? she had smarts and looks. and ambition! she's always getting into trouble and losing out on relationships because she puts her career, and her relentless search for truth, before them. at least that's what it looked like from the handful of episodes i saw, lol.
