I have been vaguely tempted to app a flying, talking cat character at a comm for some time. Ahem. This is what happens when you get muses from Catwings. You throw your dignity to the wind.

I used to be way into Dragonriders of Pern, which in hindsight I'm not sure is much better.

I read a bunch of those, but I left the fanning to my sister. Who lurvvvvvved them. I think they may have been one of the first things I read with gay characters? And definitely the first thing I read with sex scenes, of the FTB variety. Which confused me. I had no idea what happened after the fade. WHY DID THEY START NIBBLING ON EACH OTHER BEFORE THE SCENE CHANGED.
