I feel like my internet presence has been disjointed and confusing, so I've been trying to merge more things together. I'm going to run down a list of things I have to make it easier to follow what I've been up to. For those who have been playing the game to win, this list will (mostly) seem a bit redundant:

1. MUSIC

First off, my band's sites. We've just bought a domain name:

http://neverrightnow.com

Among other things, news, pics, press kit, videos, a link to our Tumblog, Twitter, Youtube, Bandcamp and mailing list sign-up can be found here.

Our Twitter:

http://twitter.com/neverrightnow

Our Bandcamp:

http://neverrightnow.bandcamp.com

We've also got a Myspace at:

http://myspace.com/neverrightnow

where we'll be posting song samples and gigs (when we have 'em) and where you can friend us if you have a Myspace.

You can become a fan of Never Right Now on Facebook:

http://www.facebook.com/pages/Never-Right-Now/326417010926

For good measure we'll be uploading our songs and announcing gigs here as well. There's also the added community aspect of Facebook, because we get to post discussions and links, which I find so super neat.

Our Youtube:

http://youtube.com/neverrightnow/

Our Tumblog:

http://neverrightnow.tumblr.com

2. ART IN GENERAL

I have a new site that I'm slowly adding all my artistic stuff to:

http://ansatejones.com

My official portfolio is at:

http://ansatejones.com/graphic

You can buy stuff at:

http://www.etsy.com/shop/AnsateJones

My nifty-difty (it's a word now that I've typed it) art blog, Hieratic, is at:

http://blog.ansatejones.com

Here I'll post tons of photos, drawings, fanvids, writing, and of course any developments in the band or music in general. It's DEFINITELY worth following if you like what I do at all, because it'll probably all get mentioned and then linked from there.

I've also got Hieratic updates being crossposted automatically to Twitter.

3. TUMBLR

My Tumblog is at:

http://ans99.tumblr.com

I used to have to ship Twitter to LJ (which is apparently an incredible social faux pas) in order to bring my Tumblr posts to my friends list. Now I've created a direct LJ feed:

http://ans99tumblr.livejournal.com

In my personal Tumblog, I reblog and post all sorts of things 'round the Internet that make me smile, weep, get angry, and, last but not least, think. It's a nice collection of what inspires me on the 'Net, but also of interesting tidbits from sources that might not make the mainstream news. I also tend to post pertinent updates from my other blogs when I remember.

In addition, because of all the inane book covers I used to run across in the course of my job (which at least in part had me putting up book reviews on a website), I created an additional Tumblr mocking said book covers:

http://wtfbookcovers.tumblr.com

The LJ feed is here:

http://wtfbookcovers.livejournal.com

Some of these seriously have to be seen to be believed.

Then, inspired by something [livejournal.com profile] snowgrouse did a while ago, I decided to make a Tumblog that drew parallels between owls and Doctor Who (it's better than it sounds):

http://orly-doctorwho.tumblr.com

And finally I help mod the Advice Master Tumblog here:

http://advicemaster.tumblr.com

4. TWITTER

My Twitter is at:

http://twitter.com/ans99

Twitter is kind of a dumping ground and I'm scared to go there much because with my day and my rampant Internet addiction as full blown as it already is, I really cannot keep up with what kind of sandwich Adam Savage ate for lunch or what Neil Gaiman said to Amanda Palmer over the phone. So this is not used for much more than notifying any readers of Tumblr posts, and now Hieratic posts, that I've made. OCCASIONALLY I will do an actual Tweet. Also our British cell phone has texting capabilities so when I go overseas I'll probably use it again for trip updates.

I think that's it.

OH. Before I forget:

If you have a site (for art, or writing, or whatever) and you'd like to be linked from any of my sites, please let me know. I'd love to include you. I'm especially interested in rebuilding the blogroll for Hieratic. Most of the links from Digitalis will be rolled over but I know some of you might have some new stuff you want to share.

Public Service Announcement: First CD is out for my band, Never Right Now <3<3

Please Play Please is our official first release: a collection of demo versions of our songs. It features new mixes for CrabSong and Motel 6, as well as four brand new songs and an acoustic version of CrabSong!

Now downloadable from BandCamp for a minimum of $4 (sort of variant on the ‘pay what you want’ model). Streaming is of course always free, and you can listen to the entire album on BandCamp.

Everything was done ourselves- the writing, recording, mixing, etc. I did the cover art :)

First off, my new band's sites. We've just bought a domain name:

which right now just redirects to our BandCamp site:

http://neverrightnow.bandcamp.com

The BandCamp site has better quality streams of our music, and you can also download the songs we have up there (and when we have an album, it'll be available for download/purchase there).

We've also got a Myspace at:

http://myspace.com/neverrightnow

where we'll be posting songs and gigs (when we have 'em) and where you can friend us if you have a Myspace.

We hope to get up an actual site soon at our new domain, with lyrics and bio/press kit stuff and blog links and such. In the works: a blog (probably Wordpress, Twitter, a spot at ReverbNation, and (once we begin to amass some video content), YouTube.

So in other news, today I've got some sort of eyelid swelling going on. It's burny and obnoxious, and I don't want to go out in public. I woke up this way, so I'm not sure what happened. Took some Tavist, which did NOTHING, and applied an icepack to the eye. Nothing is really beating it too well though :(

Also, all my Neko Case arrived, as well as the Doctor Who 2009 specials. The Neko Case is of course awesome, and I've been listening to it all afternoon.

But the specials artwork... ugh. Ok, First off, not enough Master! I'm rather incensed that Wilf gets the other CD for End of Time (Doctor gets the other of course). WTF. The story is about TIME LORDS. Not some doofy old person who... well, maybe that's a spoiler. But he doesn't deserve the Master's place, that's for dang sure. He just got in the way the entire story!

Also, the inside cover art for it is just entirely too melodramatic:

Give me a flippin' break.

ken's parents took us wine tasting in napa when they came out to visit. it's a pretty impressive area with some pretty impressive wine. although heck if i can back that up, i was drunk by noon.

i think this batch of wine might have been bad.

hey, so i know i haven't actually done any of the drawings i said i'd do but this little offer still stands. i want to get started on this soon. there's still 1-2 slots open, depending on if [livejournal.com profile] eyeteeth was being serious.

so far i've got:

Pick for me? -anna
kevin bacon! dressed as um hitler -alex
queen of england with a pair of hulk hands -alan
I mean, if you really want to draw me something it's not as if I'll stand in your way... -eyeteeth

this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to request some of the most questionable art ever, folks. don't pass it up :P
ans99: (kickass)
oh, here's the x-men fanvid i've been working on For Over a Year. not sure why it took me so long.* it's about jean grey and mental instability and succumbing to the shadow self etc etc, yeah, you all hated x3 but you should watch it because i put it to the nine inch nails song, "me, i'm not." so that automatically makes it pretty entertaining.

i also reuploaded that one youtube made me take down, after becoming emboldened by a bunch of links suggesting that a turn of the tide may eventually be in order for vidders vs copyright infringement laws foisted by whiny-ass companies that like to use other people's work to make themselves rich but somehow can't afford to let the fucking fans of said work pay tribute to it through, at times, some pretty damned neat transformative art.

if youtube deletes my account, i'm not going to be too fussed, because youtube makes everything look crappy. and srsly, that's sort of my point. it's like, grow up music and film industries: youtube is not a source for quality media so you should stop pretending it is. it is not losing you money. rather it's exposing people To Your Product.

anyway, if you haven't seen my vids at all you should check them out before youtube cans me, or something: my youtube channel.

but
you
can
also
download
them
off
my
non-existent
site.

as a bonus, better quality!

* other than that making fanvids out of only six or so hours total of potential footage, especially if the vids focus on one character in an ensemble cast, means one often runs out of footage. also, it was definitely a different editing style than i was used to, because trying to put clips to a nine inch nails song means one has to get a little more creative than usual if an attempt is made to follow the song as closely as possible. i mean, how do you visualize an eggbeater hooked up to an amp or whatever when all you have is a few minutes here and there of storm hugging people. it gets difficult.

* oh, and if you like this kind of stuff but don't read my feed yet, you know what to do

so i stayed up til 5:30 last night, and witnessed an odd progression of television shows-- as often happens as the night wears on into early morning. especially when the bulk of what you watch is on the sci-fi channel.

so last night i watched, from midnight on:

-two episodes of burn notice (which is actually really good, but when the lead actor bares his teeth i kind of want to punch him in the face);

-an episode of the x-files where mulder gets both his arms cut off by sexy nurses;

-a movie about a space vampire with laser eyes who accidentally gives his girlfriend rabies

-and then midnight came on and i said, "what is this shit?" and turned it off and went to bed.

nah, what i was really doing wasn't watching tv so much as finishing this:

i don't know why i need to stay up all night finishing sketches, but i'm sure i can safely blame it on the influence of my father.

i took piano lessons from age 9-18, and while living at home my playing apparently became a great source of entertainment for my mother, because every year she without fail asks me to send her cds of this stuff. occasionally i even fulfill her requests. last, last christmas (2007, ok, how would you say it) i made her this collection of covers. although it's not my best work (e.g. you can hear pages turning, the mix is a little bassy, i only gave myself a few weeks to do this, and i sang while i played so both elements are somewhat compromised), i've been letting the mp3s play in rotation on my computer for a few months now and i'm kind of oddly proud of them. so i've put them up in case you cared.

except under unusual circumstances here and there where i just gave up, i believe these songs are one-off recordings. you'd have to ask ken.

"The first five people to comment in this post get to request a sketch of a character of their choosing from me. In return, they have to post this in their journal, regardless of their drawing ability level. If you absolutely can't draw, I don't see why you wouldn't be able to offer drabbles or icons or something instead."

since we seem to be pimping our Madd Arte Skillz out in this section below here, i might as well post my latest "sketch":

(i am so pleased with these pencils. it is like a man who has only eaten twizzlers all his life getting a portobella mushroom burger with pepper jack cheese and avocado and sundried tomato paste. ok, now i'm hungry. but if someone wants to get me art pencils for some gift-giving day i will not object. 6B FTW.)
